I'm often asked what blog sites I like to read and there is never an easy answer. There's a lot out there, but I do try to keep an eye open for opportunities that might help us reach the end goal, may it be getting published, or finding an agent, or improving our writing. I try to visit these sites weekly.

Run by an agent that gives useful information to tune up your query. Queries are agony but a necessary evil if you want an agent. Read EVERYTHING in her blog before writing your query, She will save you hours of work.
I follow the Lerner Book blog because I have a soft spot for Minnesota anything. Lerner sometimes has open call for middle grade or young adult books. Keep an eye on this site.

I also follow sites that offer twitter contest or opportunities to submit and get a critique. Take a look at the following.
Brenda Drake started Pitch Wars and Pitch Mad eight years ago. A contest with an opportunity to get critiques from agents.
Kidlit 411 has a month by month list of ongoing contests.
Don't forget the SCBWI WIP awards. Follow them at
